Titan Up: Game Balls Week 13 – The Thanksgiving Edition

AUTHOR: Nick Bishop | IN: Titans | COMMENTS: None Yet

If football is to the holidays, what Grandma is to apple pie, then the first of the Thanksgiving Day games was a beautiful culmination of all of the above for Titans fans. The Tennessee Titans second nationally televised came on my favorite day of the year against the lowly Detroit Lions serving as the first of the Turkey Day games. Detroit has been a staple in these games since 1934, but once the main feast of the holiday slate of games, the turkeys or hams if you will, have now become the cranberry sauce or the the weird Jello pie [...]

Titans-Lions Game Notes

AUTHOR: kellenbarton | IN: Titans | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Titans thoroughly dominated the Lions from the outset of the game, coming through with a convincing 47-10 win over the Lions. As expected, the Titans were able to establish the running game against the, um, lacking Detroit defense. We even had a Vince Young siting. All in all, a pretty good start for the day.

Tennessee got back on track in a hurry. Granted, the Lions are the Lions, so there shouldn’t be too much stock placed on the win in and of itself. How they won, though, is a different story. After an early Detroit turnover, it took all of [...]

Week 13 Preview: Titans @ Lions

AUTHOR: kellenbarton | IN: Titans | COMMENTS: None Yet

Happy Thanksgiving! We hope that everyone has gotten (or will get) to their destination safely. Seeing that it’s Thanksgiving we’re going to make this real short and sweet. (It looks like this didn’t post correctly last night, so if you’re reading this as I type the game is already a bit underway.)
The Titans are coming off of their first loss of the season and, before promptly blowing a 17-0 lead (against a good Tampa Bay team), it looked as if the Lions might be coming off of their first win of the season. Well, the Lions are the Lions (they [...]

State of the Titans, etc.

AUTHOR: kellenbarton | IN: Titans | COMMENTS: None Yet

Hello Everyone. Sorry for the couple day absence. We’ve either been out of town, recovering from oral surgery and/or mourning the Titans loss.
Well, obviously, the perfect season ends at 10-0, which was a terrifically unexpected accomplishment in and of itself. Speaking for myself only (as the pessimist that I am), I really didn’t think that the Titans would finish undefeated anyway (I didn’t think that the Jets would be the team to finally beat us, though), so this isn’t a terrible shock or huge disappointment. Seeing that there are plenty worse times to lose (ask the Patriots), either 15-1 or 14-2 would still be pretty awesome. More importantly, [...]

Titans-Jets Game Notes

AUTHOR: Nick Bishop | IN: Titans | COMMENTS: None Yet

Well… (pause)… a bit of a gut shot today. We’ll break the game down Monday evening, but some thoughts on the game:

Numbers: The Jets scored 34 points to our 13. They held onto the ball for over 40 minutes. They gained over 400 yards. They were only penalized 3 times. Stats, stats, stats. The Titans started the game poorly and finished it worse.
We need to start running the ball again. We beat the Bears and Jags with our passing attack, but it’s clear that if we can’t get it done against the Jets and their 28th ranked passing defense, we [...]

Titan Sized featured on FOX Sports and the New York Times “The Fifth Down”

AUTHOR: Nick Bishop | IN: Titans, Video | COMMENTS: 4 Comments

It’s been an incredibly busy week here at Titan Sized headquarters as the 10-0 Titans gear up for a showdown of epic proportions against the equally hot New York Jets. This should be the best game in the NFL on the week 12 slate, as both teams are playing with a purpose right now (the Jets to remain in control of the AFC East, and the Titans, to well, stay UNDEFEATED).
We have had some really great opportunities this week to do some writing on a much more national level that has really helped our blog get a lot more exposure. [...]

Week 12 Preview: Titans vs. Jets

AUTHOR: kellenbarton | IN: Titans | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Two of the AFC’s best will battle at LP Field on Sunday, as the 10-0 Tennessee Titans “welcome” the 7-3 New York Jets. After a lackluster 1-2 start, the Jets have gone 6-1 to currently sit alone atop the highly competitive AFC East. While it hasn’t always been pretty, the Jets quarterback has been able to limit his mistakes enough to win ball games, and played superbly in New York’s 34-31 OT victory against the Patriots in New England. Favre will face his toughest challenge of the season in the Tennessee Titans, but a win would put the Jets into the [...]

Some Love for Kerry Collins

AUTHOR: kellenbarton | IN: Titans | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

In the last few weeks the Titans have actually started to get the national attention and respect one would expect an undefeated team to receive (about 10% of the coverage that last year’s Patriots got). Whispers of Kerry Collins as a potential MVP have circulated in the last month, and his performance in the Titans’ last two victories have done nothing to stop that. Whether or not you think Collins’ name has any business in a MVP conversation, for a myriad of reasons his play this season has easily been one of the most surprising stories this year. Some of [...]

News & Notes

AUTHOR: Nick Bishop | IN: Rumors, Titans, Video | COMMENTS: None Yet

So the scenarios will get a lot less ridiculous (hopefully) in the next two weeks, but:
YOUR TENNESSEE TITANS CLINCH A PLAYOFF SPOT IF:
TEN win + MIA loss or tie + BAL loss or tie + PIT loss

Fun Stat from our crack research staff at Titan Sized: 2-7. That’s the record of opposing teams the week after playing the Titans. Now you may say that this is a function of a weak Titans schedule. We play bad teams so they’re more likely to lose. Well we’ve played some good-to-decent teams this season too. My theory: the Titans play such a physical style of [...]

AFC South Breakdown: Week 11

AUTHOR: kellenbarton | IN: Titans | COMMENTS: None Yet

(Nick Bishop, Kellen Barton and Jody Whelan write for Titan Sized, which is FSB’s Tennessee Titans blog. Representing the rest of the AFC South are Black & Teal, Naptown’s Finest and Toro Times)
Week 11 saw two divisional match-ups in the AFC South, both of which seemed to pretty clearly show the trajectory of the division for the remainder of the season. The two victors are poised to play in the postseason, while the losers are pretty much on the outside trying to look into a building without windows.  The undefeated Titans have had control of the division for over a [...]
