When the Tennessee Titans hired Robert Saleh, the fan base was excited because it meant elite defensive play was coming back to Nashville. However, Cam Ward's development is still the top priority for this franchise, which meant that the team's offensive coordinator needed to be someone who could handle that job.
Luckily for Saleh, the New York Giants decided to part ways with Brian Daboll last season. Daboll was hired as the Titans' OC, finally getting his chance to work with Ward, a quarterback he loved in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Saleh recently expressed that Daboll essentially has full control over the offense. While it was via subtext and context clues at first, Saleh just laid it all on the table in a refreshing dose of training camp honesty.

"At the end of the day, Daboll is an expert on offense with good knowledge of defense, just like I'm an expert on defense with good knowledge of offense," Saleh said at a recent training camp practice. "So we'll have constant dialogue, we'll have thoughts, he'll spitball ideas to me and I'll go back and forth with him. At the end of the day, you hire these guys because you trust that they're the best in the world at what they're doing...
There's a lot of dialogue that's happening, but as far as being a micromanager, I don't think that's what you're looking for. I don't think micromanaging is the right thing to do. We hired Dabes for a reason...I'm going to give him my trust."
Saleh went on to say it is also part of his job to question and challenge Daboll, and to make sure that his ideas stay on track. The larger point here is that Saleh views himself as a CEO-type head coach with a master's degree in defense, but who understands himself well enough to know that there are people who have spent all (or nearly all) of their career focusing on offense.
With that in mind, Saleh is giving Daboll the keys when it comes to the development of franchise quarterback Cam Ward, and Josh Allen and Jaxson Dart can confirm that has been a great recipe for success in the past.
Fans should be optimistic about this pairing. It's even more notable that the Titans have a coach who understands his limits and empowers his assistants to do the job they were hired for. As time goes on, that should be very important when it comes to the long-term success of the team.
But first things first, they have to get Ward going this season, and it looks like they have a great plan in place to ensure that happens.
