For the first time in what seems like forever, there is a ton of hope that the Tennessee Titans will be competitive during the season in 2026. When last season ended, Mike Borgonzi had to get to work to figure out the coaching situation since he inherited Brian Callahan. That didn't last long as the Titans had fired Callahan in the middle of last season.
Borgonzi ended up making Robert Saleh his first head-coach hire and it was a home run appointment because of his proven success as a defensive playcaller. Pretty soon, we will be finding out whether or not it was Saleh or the Jets that were the main issue in his last tenure (but we all know that the Jets fell apart even more after Saleh was fired).
Saleh is now tasked with turning this franchise around, and it is a big task, but it's not impossible. It does help that he has a solid coordinator team of Gus Bradley and Brian Daboll, both who are experienced coaches that have had success on their side of the ball.
However, this coaching staff has a lot to prove and they face a long uphill battle to bring the Titans to relevancy, and Josh Kendall from The Athletic reminds Titans fans of that uphill battle.
Power ranking shows how much Titans have to gain heading into 2026
Kendall put together a power rankings list heading into the season, and the Titans did improve from last year's spot, but not by much. Kendall has the Titans sitting at No. 29 only ahead of the Cardinals, Jets, and Dolphins.
"The Titans will have new uniforms, a new logo and a new head coach when the season begins (with a new stadium just a year away). A big change was warrented. No team has won fewer games than Tennessee (19) over the past four years. Now, Robert Saleh is in charge of turning things around and accelerating quarterback Cam Ward's development. The No. 1 pick from 2024 finished 31st in the league last year in passer rating." said Kendall.
Going up three spots is better than nothing. In addition, the Titans certainly have more going for them than the other three teams behind them. With that being said, they have to go out and earn respect. They are in a competitive division, with the Jaguars and Texans having already established themselves as legitimate postseason contenders.
Tennessee faces an uphill battle, but considering where they have been the last few seasons, it can only get better. Not to mention, there is a lot more stability all around than there have been the last four seasons.
