Cam Ward was drafted first overall in the 2025 NFL Draft to give the Tennessee Titans their hopeful next franchise quarterback. After the Will Levis experiment became a disaster, the Titans landed the No. 1 overall pick last year and selected Ward to lead the franchise.
Despite going through a ton of adversity with a head coaching change and limited support, Ward still managed to show some signs of high-level play in his rookie season. He managed to throw for 15 touchdowns and only seven interceptions. However, he was sacked 55 times, which was very concerning.
Now with a new coaching regime that is more stable, and an upgrade in his receiving core, Ward will now get the chance to showcase his talent and why the Titans used the first overall pick on him.
With the Titans bringing in Brian Daboll as the new offensive coordinator, and a new set of weapons with Carnell Tate and Wan’Dale Robinson, Ward is now set up to take the next step forward to bring back hope for Titans fans. However, there is always the direction as well that Ward could take that would have Titans fans extremely nervous.
Worst-case Cam Ward scenario would have Titans fans in shambles
Lou Scataglia from NFL Spin Zone created a list of every AFC team’s nightmare scenario with training camp approaching here very soon, and Titans should be fearful of what Scataglia wrote for the Titans. It was "Cam Ward fails to take a notable step forward".
"The idea with second-year quarterbacks that show promise as a rookie is that year two is a nice building block for what could be an awesome future. The Tennessee Titans have enough in place for Cam Ward to make a year two leap, but what if he doesn't?" said Scataglia.
"It would soon cast a massive cloud of doubt over Ward and if he can actually be a legitimate franchise quarterback. With how loaded the AFC is with young quarterback talent, Ward being able to develop could have the Titans on the cusp of being the next great team in the conference." Scataglia added.
There is an expectation that Ward will have some growing pains with a new playcaller in Daboll, but with his reputation of running an offense, Ward is set up to have success as the season goes on. With a new supporting cast around him, he has the opportunity to show that last year’s performance was simply just because of the lack of help.
On the other hand, if Ward doesn’t take that next step forward, or even regresses, then the Titans will have a tricky situation on their hands after 2026.
