The Tennessee Titans have a new head coach in Robert Saleh, and his tenure with the team will start with Tennessee having a projected league-high $104 million in cap space this offseason. That will give the Titans the ability to make a ton of improvements to a roster that won just three games in each of the last two seasons.
While Saleh is a defensive-minded coach, it seems like a safe bet that Tennessee will hand a lot of that money out to offensive players, to assist the team’s young quarterback Cam Ward. One free agency target who fits that profile is Indianapolis Colts receiver Alec Pierce. In a recent ESPN piece by Matt Bowen, naming the best team fits for the top 50 free agents, the Titans were named as the ideal team for Pierce.
Titans named as best team fit for Colts receiver Alec Pierce
Pierce was ranked no. 6 on the list, and the second receiver. However, with George Pickens expected to be franchise tagged by the Dallas Cowboys, Pierce could end up being the top available wide receiver. While he’ll have a ton of suitors, Bowen believes his fit in Tennessee makes the most sense.
"With the Titans in position to be active in free agency, I like Pierce in Tennessee under new offensive coordinator Brian Daboll. Pierce has the vertical stretch ability to produce down the field and can play a volume role as a multilevel target for quarterback Cam Ward. Pierce averaged a league-best 21.3 yards per catch with the Colts in 2025."Matt Bowen (ESPN)
The Titans should absolutely push hard to land the veteran wideout. In four years with the Colts, Pierce consistently delivered as a big-play receiver, catching 157 passes for 2,934 yards and 17 touchdowns. He led the NFL in yards per catch in each of the last two seasons, averaging 22.3 in 2024, and 21.3 in 2025. This past season, the wideout also had his first 1000-yard season, posting 1,003 yards in 15 games.
In Tennessee, the wide receiver position was one of the team’s many weaknesses. Tight end Chigoziem Okonkwo led the team in receiving yards with 560, and he was trailed by three rookies. Additionally, the Titans struggled with drops, so a player like Pierce, who can consistently make tough catches, would be a great addition for Cam Ward and the offense.
