Titans should bite the bullet and cut ties with this trade candidate

Tennessee Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi is pondering which players to make available ahead of the November 4th NFL trade deadline. One of the potential candidates is veteran defensive end Dre'Mont Jones. Though Jones has been performing admirably in recent weeks, the Titans need to strongly consider trading him.

Jones was signed to a one-year contract worth $8.5 million by Borgonzi during the offseason. He was acquired as a short-term solution for a much bigger pass-rushing problem. Though Jones began the season in very disappointing fashion, his play has improved in recent outings.

The Titans are struggling to consistently rush the passer even with an in-form Jones at their disposal. They'll get worse if they trade him. That matters naught in a wasted campaign, and the Titans require additional draft capital more than they need Jones to conclude a rather meaningless 2025.

Titans should trade Dre'Mont Jones despite his recent run of good form

The 28-year-old Jones probably isn't in Borgonzi's long-term plans. The EDGE position desperately needs an overhaul this coming offseason, with premium resources poured into it both during free agency and the 2026 NFL Draft. Borgonzi wants to rebuild this roster through the draft, meaning getting a pick back for Jones, who's on an expiring contract, is the better long-term bet.

Jones has done his part to attract potential interest near the deadline. Over Tennessee's past four games, he's accumulated eight pressures, two sacks, and a fumble recovery. That's the type of production a playoff contender in need of another rotational pass rusher will be intrigued by.

Jones has been the Titans' best pass rusher in recent weeks. That's not as notable as Borgonzi's 2026 roster-building plans are. The more draft picks the merrier for a regime hellbent on taking a patient approach. They'll also get rookie EDGE Femi Oladejo back from IR at some point, and he needs further evaluation. Jones' expiring contract fits the Titans' profile of a perfect candidate to be traded near the deadline.
