It is rare to see the Tennessee Titans lead the league in anything, but in Adam Schefter recently published his list of trade candidates, and no team has more players on the speculative list than the Titans.
"In a copycat league where teams constantly are striving to improve, general managers already have begun exploring additional trades, and based on recent years, there could be at least another dozen to come, league sources told ESPN."
That was posted after the most recent trades, which means there could be more than 12 deals to come between now and the trade deadline. He then proceeds to list the 33 names that he believes are trade candidates.
Underwhelming Titans veterans spearhead ESPN's list of potential trade deadline candidates
Nearly 20% of the names Schefter mentions are Titans players, which should perk up the ears of this fan base. After the team's 0-3 start, we identified seven players on the roster that could have trade value around the NFL if the Titans were willing to acquire some much-needed additional draft capital. Four of those names made Schefter's list:
1. Tyler Lockett, WR
2. Kevin Zeitler, RG
3. Arden Key, EDGE
4. Dre'Mont Jones, EDGE
Schefter excluded names like Tony Pollard, Sebastian Joseph-Day, and Calvin Ridley.
Schefter added Chig Okonkwo and Roger McCreary as potential trade targets. Considering the lack of young talent on the roster, it would be a head-scratching move for the Titans to trade away either player instead of extending them. However, this team seems to be rudderless and lacks any sort of cohesive plan on how to make things better, so it is impossible to ignore the possibility entirely.
The two players with the biggest price tag for the Titans should be Ridley and Jeffery Simmons, but neither made the list of potential trade candidates.
At this point, Cam Ward's season is almost certainly going to be ruined by a mixture of bad coaching and a poor supporting cast. The only thing Titans fans are going to see from him is how well he can handle a brutally long season and whether or not he can start to put together more highlights than lowlights.
With that in mind, everyone else on the roster other than Peter Skoronski and Simmons should probably have some sort of price tag. Over the last few weeks, everyone has had stretches where they look replaceable in the immediate future, and the team should want as many assets as possible to use on new talent this offseason when this team replaces more than half of their starters again.
