To predict the success of an NFL franchise, you can usually just look at the impact of its recent early-round draft picks. The Tennessee Titans' horrific stretch of picks from 2020 to 2022 ultimately sent them plummeting to the bottom of the league standings.

Tennessee hired general manager Mike Borgonzi to fix that trend. After taking Cam Ward with his first pick in charge of the team, Borgonzi is tasked with building a roster around his young quarterback. While a competent offensive line and dynamic offensive weapons come to mind as key supports for a QB, it's crucial to assemble a capable defense as well.

The Titans have a long way to go on that side of the ball, as they've been among the worst defenses in the league this season, both against the run and the pass. The draft is still months away, but Ohio State defender Arvell Reese is already looking like the Titans' ideal pick in the first round.

Arvell Reese could be Titans' dream 2026 draft pick

Tennessee could draft a defender at just about any position, and it would fill a need. Outside of Jeffery Simmons, there aren't many locked-in starters on their defense. Luckily, Arvell Reese can take out two weak spots with one pick.

The Ohio State defender plays both off-ball linebacker and edge rusher, and he's excellent at both. Reese is an athletic anomaly. Even at 6-foot-4 and 243 pounds, he possesses elite athleticism and fluidity. He's able to hold up in coverage, anticipating throws and reading routes consistently. Against the run, he has the speed to track down ball carriers from sideline to sideline.

Ohio State often uses him as a quarterback spy, using his athleticism to keep opposing passers from scrambling.

But many scouts are projecting a move to the defensive line for the Buckeye. In a fairly limited sample size, he's been explosive as an edge rusher. He already has 6.5 sacks this season, dominating offensive linemen when he's given a chance to rush the passer.

Reese would immediately step in as a defensive weapon for the Titans. While it's unclear who Tennessee's defensive play caller will be in 2026, the Ohio State defender's versatility makes him a fit in any scheme. He's been rising up draft boards this season, so the Titans would need to spend their first-round pick to get him. Based on what he's shown so far this year, the selection would be more than worth it.
