The Tennessee Titans need to improve their pass rush this offseason. First-year defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson did not receive appropriate production from that unit throughout 2024. The Titans concluded the season with just 32.0 sacks, the third-worst mark in the entire league. Not a single player reached double-digit sacks.

New general manager Mike Borgonzi enters the offseason needing to find instant contributors to improve the defensive line. Borgonzi and Co. have several outcomes to consider. Starting EDGEs Harold Landry III and Arden Key have been named as potential cap casualties. If the Titans part ways with their veteran rushers, the need for impact front-seven defenders will get even larger.

Tennessee's new regime has laid out a detailed plan to rebuild the roster. While they plan to focus on drafting and developing talent, they may turn to free agency for veteran pass rushers. One potentially intriguing option is Philadelphia Eagles EDGE Josh Sweat.

Pro Football Focus recently named the Titans a potential landing spot for Sweat in free agency.

"Sweat’s consistent production as part of Philadelphia’s elite pass-rush unit makes him one of the most attractive options on the free-agent market," Mason Cameron recently wrote. "Entering his age-28 season, he brings a stellar track record, ranking 15th among edge defenders in pressures (178) over the past three seasons. A natural landing spot could be Tennessee."

It's worth noting there is existing familiarity between the Titans and Sweat. Tennessee's current defensive coordinator Wilson spent two seasons (2021-22) alongside Sweat in Philadelphia. In 2022, the pass rusher posted a career-high 11.0 sacks.

There are other ways for the Titans to address their pass-rushing need this offseason. One popular scenario that's consistently being floated out there is drafting Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter at No. 1 overall in the 2025 NFL Draft, or via a slight trade-down with a team targeting one of the quarterbacks, Cam Ward or Shedeur Sanders.

Sweat will play with the Eagles against the Kansas City Chiefs, Borgonzi's former team, on Sunday in Super Bowl LIX. Sweat produced 8.0 sacks throughout the regular-season campaign, surpassing last year's total of 6.5 sacks. The former Florida State standout appears poised to capitalize by signing a lucrative contract in free agency. If Philadelphia lets him reach free agency, the Titans should be interested in adding his services to Wilson's defense.
