For years, the Tennessee Titans have been stuck in a cycle of change. Each year there seems to be a new GM, head coach, or quarterback and that constant change leads to slow starts and blame being placed on whoever has been around the longest.
After the team's Week 1 loss against the New York Jets, owner Amy Adams Strunk needs to make her stance perfectly clear to everyone involved. She needs to make sure that Mike Borgonzi, Robert Saleh, and Cam Ward all understand that their jobs are tied together, and she needs to ensure they have time to right the ship.
For Titans fans, this is a painful pill to swallow. Saleh is their first-year coach and Borgonzi and Ward in their second sesons. But this is the fourth season in a row that fans are staring down the face of progress being more important than wins.

That is the way this team has to build something sustainable. It isn't fun, but there's no quick fix, and it shouldn't surprise anyone that an entirely new coaching staff with a depth chart featuring 12 new starters didn't come out firing on all cylinders in Week 1. In fact, they probably won't find much footing this week when they host the Philadelphia Eagles, and it might not really start humming until October, considering how tough the schedule appears.
It is going to be tough, and this fan base is already so quick to devolve into pessimism that it is going to be a dark place on social media for a while. But ownership has to understand that hiring a new coach, GM, or making a change at quarterback is going to reset the clock instead of accelerating this rebuild.
The coaches that the Titans hired this offseason are experienced leaders. They've been great at coaching their side of the ball in adverse situations elsewhere, and there is no reason to assume that they have forgotten how to do that in Tennessee.
Has Ward been a perfect quarterback? No, in fact, he has struggled more often than he has thrived, but how many times have we seen teams give up on quarterbacks too soon? Nearly a third of the NFL's starting quarterbacks were drafted by a different team, and Sam Darnold just won a Super Bowl after being written off years ago.
Most quarterbacks are a reflection of the situation around them, with only a very elite few being able to transcend their surroundings. If Ward falls into the former category, then it is up to the Titans to continue investing resources into his surroundings.
As for Borgonzi, he has done the strongest job of the bunch. This rookie class has already produced four starters or role players, and his biggest question mark from the previous draft class was Femi Oladejo, who was one of the team's best players in Week 1.
Week 1 was awful, but this group is much better on paper than what they showed. Feel free to boo or spiral on social media, that is the right of fans everywhere who have to suffer through this. However, ownership needs to be above it for once and stay committed to the vision regardless of the immediate results.
