The Tennessee Titans could very well have a steal on their hands from the 2026 NFL Draft and fans may not realize it. The focus was on the offense and surrounding Cam Ward with talent around him to be successful going into his second season. The Titans started out their draft by getting Ward’s hopeful new No. 1 wideout in Carnell Tate.
They added some offensive line help as well, but one of their biggest acquisitions that not enough people are talking about was the drafting of running back Nicholas Singleton out of Penn State. The Titans drafted Singleton in the fifth round and the fact that he fell that far was a bit surprising.
With new offensive coordinator Brian Daboll coming in to run the offense, he will now have the opportunity to get the best out of Singleton. In four seasons at Penn State, Singleton rushed for 3,461 yards (two 1,000+ yard seasons) and 45 touchdowns. He scored 12+ touchdowns in three out of his four years there.
Titans get big time praise for Nicholas Singleton selection
Right now, Singleton has competition with Tony Pollard and Tyjae Spears, but it would not be a surprise to see Singleton get meaningful snaps during his rookie season.
Lou Scataglia from NFL Spin Zone created his list of the best seven draft picks in each round, and the Titans were credited for the Singleton pick in the fifth.
"I'm actually struggling to see why Nicholas Singleton went all the way in the fifth round. He's got the size, speed, and explosiveness, and he comes in and immediately gives the Tennessee Titans running back room a major boost. Perhaps paired up with Tony Pollard, the Titans continue to stack talent for Cam Ward." said Scataglia.
"At 6-0 and nearly 220lbs, Singleton has ideal size for a running back, and he's also quite the receiver as well. Not only that, but he's also got kick returning experience. Singleton is going to be a rock-solid pro for a long time. The Titans did some great work here." said Scataglia.
Singleton may not be the second coming of Derrick Henry in Nashville, but he has the explosiveness to be a true impactful player, especially when you consider his skills as a receiver. Obviously, Singleton will have to prove to the Titans that he not only deserves a roster spot, but also to get meaningful snaps.
At the same time, the production is there, he has great size for the position, and the Titans don’t have a current long-term future with Pollard or Spears. Tennessee may have landed their franchise running back in Singleton and all it cost them was a 5th-round pick.
