Many fans anticipated the Tennessee Titans would address the interior offensive line in the NFL Draft after Lloyd Cushenbury's departure, and with Kevin Zeitler still unsigned. That is exactly what happened. After selecting Fernando Carmona at No. 142, the Titans grabbed former National Champion Pat Coogan at No. 194.

Coogan started two seasons for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish before transferring to the Indiana Hoosiers for the 2025 season. He logged more than 2500 snaps at left guard and center, and was named offensive MVP of the Rose Bowl victory against Alabama this past season. If Mike Borgonzi was looking to add an experienced young leader to this draft class, he may have found exactly that in Coogan.

Tennessee Titans add a high-floor, experienced protector in Pat Coogan

In 2025, Coogan allowed zero sacks and only ten pressures, numbers you normally will not find in the sixth round. But the film is just as impressive. He is an ultra reliable pass protector and rarely loses reps due to mental mistakes.

Coogan's athleticism could instantly add value to the Titans' rushing attack. Play quickness allows him to get out in space on pulls and lead blocks, and his feet and vision allow him to consistently reach linebackers at the second level in an RPO heavy-scheme. For an offense that loved running behind Coogan through the A-gap, he did a strong job steering nose tackles and creating lanes.

The Big Ten Championship Game against Ohio State offers some of the most notable snaps to summarize Coogan as a prospect. Over 50% of his pass protection snaps came one on one against Houston Texans' 2nd round pick, DT Kayden McDonald. Coogan largely held his own against the former Buckeye, but his lack of strength sometimes caused him to get pushed back into the quarterback's vision. Overall, it's encouraging to see a sixth round pick excel against a second rounder, a division rival's second rounder at that.

It's intriguing the Titans added Carmona in the fifth round, and came back around and added Coogan in the sixth. It's possible that the value on Coogan was too good to pass up and Borgonzi couldn't resist. His high-floor brings some reliability to a Titans room desperately searching for an answer at either C or RG.
