Despite spending so aggressively during the first wave of NFL free agency, the Tennessee Titans still have two sizable holes on the interior of their offensive line. The team has not re-signed right guard Kevin Zeitler, who was a stellar performer in 2025. At center, the Titans added veteran backup Austin Schlottmann, seemingly to compete with sophomore Jackson Slater for the job.
General manager Mike Borgonzi should still strongly consider re-signing Zeitler. Until a new update arrives regarding his status, the Titans must start considering alternatives at right guard, too. One in particular has significant history with the Titans' new coaching staff.
Former New York Giants guard Greg Van Roten is currently a free agent. Van Roten isn't re-signed with the Giants, nor has he announced any intentions to retire. The Titans have an opportunity to steal him away and reunite him with familiar faces on the coaching staff.
Titans could make Giants regret sitting on Greg Van Roten in free agency
Van Roten played a team-high 1,150 snaps for the Giants this past season. He was miraculously on the field for every single snap of the 2025 campaign. Despite the volume, Pro Football Focus credited him with allowing just three sacks, and he was whistled for only three penalties.
New Titans offensive coordinator Brian Daboll was Van Roten's head coach with the Giants for the entire 2024 season, and a portion of the 2025 campaign (prior to his midseason firing). The Titans have signed multiple free agents this offseason in Schlottmann, Wan'Dale Robinson, and Daniel Bellinger, who played for Daboll on offense with the Giants.
Furthermore, Titans offensive line coach Carmen Bricillo has extensive history with Van Roten. He was his position coach with the Giants in 2024-25, and also with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2023. It's likely Bricillo played a large role in bringing Van Roten from the Raiders to the Giants.
The Titans haven't addressed right guard via free agency. Retaining Zeitler should remain Borgonzi's top priority at the position. Alternatively, Van Roten's history with Daboll and Bricillo makes him a no-brainer option.
