The NFL Draft is officially next month and the NFL Combine gave teams a better understanding of their pre-draft plan. As for Mike Borgonzi and the Tennessee Titans, they will have the opportunity to go in many different directions.Â
With a brand new staff led by experienced coaches, Borgonzi will have to put together a strong draft class that these coaches can develop early. Obviously, hiring Robert Saleh was a slam dunk but the hiring of Brian Daboll as the offensive coordinator might be the best one for the development of Cam Ward.
With what Daboll accomplished as an offensive coordinator with Josh Allen up in Buffalo, fans are hoping that Ward will be his next success story. At the same time, the offense can’t just revolve around Ward. There has to be playmakers for him, and Tarringo Basile-Vaughan from NFL Mocks has the Titans gifting Daboll big time with a dynamic playmaker.
Recent mock draft as Titans acquiring immediate playmaker for Brian Daboll
In Basile-Vaughan's mock, the Titans use the fourth overall pick on Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love. Love is by far the best back in this class and it's not even close.
"The draft stock for Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love is high. With all the love flying around for the outstanding running back, the Tennessee Titans decide at this spot to continue adding firepower around 2025 NFL Draft No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward." said Basile-Vaughan.
Love has been the most dynamic running back in college football the last two seasons, rushing for no less than 17 touchdowns and over 1,100+ yards on the ground. He was one carry away from having 200 carries last season and has great breakaway speed.
Adding Love to the Titans’ offense would immediately take pressure off of Ward and it would give Daboll the chance to open up the playbook. While Tennessee still needs to have playmakers on the outside for Ward, adding a young dynamic running back would help this offense operate at a better clip.
Being able to establish the run will help the passing attack and that’s where Ward is going to shine. Taking a running back this early would be risky for sure. When you think of players like Ezekiel Elliott, Leonard Fournette, and Todd Gurley, all of them were taken with early draft picks. They had a ton of success early on in their careers, but then vastly regressed.
The good news is that Daboll has a franchise quarterback in Ward who has shown a ton of promise, so the utilization of Love wouldn’t be as heavy as what past history has shown us.
