The Tennessee Titans will host their first practice of training camp on Wednesday afternoon. The veterans reported to camp on Tuesday, as general manager Mike Borgonzi and head coach Robert Saleh held a press conference for local media. One of the more positive talking points was the update delivered on veteran safety Amani Hooker.
Hooker was placed on the PUP list last week. Borgonzi and the team confirmed he's been activated ahead of the first practice session, meaning he passed a physical and is eligible to participate in Wednesday's practice. Hooker has seemingly been cleared for contact.
Hooker is the Titans' most experienced safety and presumably enters camp as the No. 1 player at the position. The former Iowa standout is also among the organization's longest-tenured players, having signed three contracts with the team that originally drafted him in 2019. A healthy and productive Hooker is vital to the secondary's success.
Amani Hooker injury update is huge news for the Titans entering training camp
Hooker appeared in 16 regular-season games for the Titans last season. He missed the team's Week 18 finale, a 41-7 drubbing at the hands of the Jacksonville Jaguars. Borgonzi revamped the secondary this offseason and Hooker offers both experience and veteran leadership.
The Titans signed Alontae Taylor and Cor'Dale Flott to be the new starting cornerbacks. Sophomores Marcus Harris and Kevin Winston Jr. find themselves in starring roles after being temporary contributors as rookies. Both Harris and Winston worked together with Hooker last season, and they'll benefit from having him healthy at camp.
Hooker recorded zero interceptions last season after having at least one takeaway in the previous five campaigns. He registered a career-high five picks in 2024. It was arguably the worst season of Hooker's professional career. The Titans desperately need him to enjoy a bounce-back year for Coach Saleh's defense to reach maximum productivity.
The Titans need Hooker to recapture his previous form after he experienced a down 2025 season. Starting camp healthy and off the PUP list is an ideal start.
