Tennessee Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi has done a stellar job improving a rebuilding roster since taking over in 2025. The Titans appear primed to take a sizable step forward in 2026 after enduring back-to-back 3-14 seasons. While Borgonzi deserves the majority of credit, he couldn't execute his strategy without a strong support cast.

Among Borgonzi's most trusted confidants is assistant general manager Dave Ziegler. Hired merely one day after Borgonzi in January of 2025, Ziegler, by official title, is the Titans' No. 2 in the front office. Together, they've collaborated on restoring respect to the roster.

Unsurprisingly, the rest of the NFL is starting to take notice. The Minnesota Vikings have requested permission to speak with Ziegler about their vacant general manager job, according to NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero. Ziegler is a candidate for the job, and the Titans would be losing a valued member of their staff if he gets the gig.

Report: Titans assistant GM Dave Ziegler to speak with Vikings about GM vacancy

Ziegler was once a general manager with the Las Vegas Raiders. He lasted roughly just 18 months in that role. Having unfortunately hitched his wagon to the much-maligned Josh McDaniels as his head coach, Ziegler and McDaniels were fired simultaneously after compiling a 9-16 record across 1.5 seasons.

It's strange for an NFL team to have a GM opening in March. The Vikings are undergoing a peculiar process that will draw lots of interest given the current lack of options around the league. It's also an intriguing job, with a strong roster that features wide receiver Justin Jefferson and a winning coach in Kevin O'Connell. Ziegler would undeniably possess interest, despite a complicated quarterback situation with Kyler Murray and J.J. McCarthy.

Since being fired by the Raiders, Ziegler has strengthened his reputation around the league with strong stints with the New Orleans Saints and Titans. The Vikings have understandably identified him as a candidate to fill their GM vacancy. Losing Ziegler would deliver a blow to the Titans' front-office structure, but Borgonzi would likely have a replacement in mind.
