The Tennessee Titans have long entertained trade offers for the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, but it seems more likely than ever that new executive Mike Borgonzi will keep the pick in his possession and use it to select much-ballyhooed Miami quarterback Cam Ward.
Both the Cleveland Browns and New York Giants, who were in dire need of new quarterbacks, have been mentioned as teams who could try to give the Titans a king's ransom in exchange for the top pick. Recent moves have made that possibility less likely than ever before.
The Giants' decision to sign fringe starter Jameis Winston to a two-year contract decreased their chances of moving up in the order for either Ward or Colorado's Shedeur Sanders. Their latest Russell Wilson move seems to have all but eliminated the possibility of a team trading up for the top pick.
Wilson has agreed to a one-year contract worth as much as $21 million with the Giants, giving them a quarterback room of Wilson, Winston and Tommy DeVito. With two new quarterbacks in New york, it seems like the Titans can essentially lock themselves into the No. 1 pick, which would likely mean Ward.
Titans could draft Cam Ward after Giants sign Russell Wilson
The Titans had hinted in the past that they wouldn't pass on a "generational" talent in previous interviews, which led many to believe that Tennessee would take the best player available. In the eyes of almost everyone, that meant either Colorado two-way star Travis Hunter or Penn State pass rusher Abdul Carter.
Tennessee seems ready to take the plunge with Ward, who is the only quarterback in this class who would have been a first-round pick in last year's group as well as the lackluster selection of signal-callers this go-around. With a big arm, experience, and playmaking skill outside of the pocket, Ward checks a ton of boxes.
The Titans are far from a contender, but they're not the worst situation for a rookie quarterback. They have invested heavily in both free agency and the NFL Draft in the offensive line, the running back room is stellar, and head coach Brian Callahan helped develop Joe Burrow.
The close it gets to NFL Draft day, the closer the Titans are to making things official with Ward. After the tremendous final season he had with Miami, it's reasonable for Titans fans to be hyped about this.
