The Tennessee Titans made the decision to trade veteran defensive end Dre'Mont Jones to the Baltimore Ravens at the NFL trade deadline. The return was a conditional fifth-round pick that could become a fourth-round selection if certain conditions are met. Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi is inching closer to confirming that trade as a huge win for the franchise.
The trade conditions are straightforward. If Jones records two regular-season sacks for the Ravens, and they qualify for the postseason, the fifth-round selection the Titans received automatically becomes a fourth rounder. Last Sunday, Jones registered 1.5 sacks in a Week 12 victory over the New York Jets. The former Ohio State standout is already just a half-sack away from meeting that requirement.
The Ravens are in contention with the Pittsburgh Steelers to win the AFC North division. The conditional aspect of the Titans' agreement with the Ravens is currently on track to be reached. That would be terrific news for a rebuilding Titans roster that could utilize another fourth-round pick in April.
Titans are close to gaining another fourth-round pick in 2026 NFL Draft after Dre'Mont Jones trade with Ravens is heading towards best-case scenario territory
Jones was signed by Borgonzi this past offseason to a one-year contract. Trading him at the deadline was a victory for a team that requires more draft capital to accelerate the rebuilding process. Remember that the Jones trade was the only in-season one to actually net the Titans an extra draft pick. The Roger McCreary and Jarvis Brownlee deals were pick-swap trades.
The Ravens possess a fairly difficult schedule down the stretch. Three of their final five remaining contests will be played within the division, with two showdowns versus the Steelers, and a rematch with the Cincinnati Bengals after they were defeated by Joe Burrow on Thanksgiving Thursday.
It may be unfamiliar territory given their rival status, but Titans fans have reason to root for the Ravens to make the playoffs.
