The Tennessee Titans began their 2025 training camp with their first practice on July 23rd, with a familiar face back on the field. Treylon Burks was healthy and ready to go after missing the final 12 games last season with a torn ACL. His offseason has mostly consisted of individual work, but he showed up to the first day of camp in impressive shape for the third year in a row.
However, the potential of the 25-year-old fourth-year wideout out of Arkansas has yet to materialize since being selected in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Burks was brought in under one of the Titans' previous front offices under immense pressure to replace the player he was traded for, A.J. Brown.
Coming into a contract year, and a team that appears to be transitioning from him at the wide receiver position, Burks has one final shot to prove he should have a role on the team. While his stature and skillset are still looked at as untapped potential, the Titans shouldn't be fooled by the positive signs again.
Treylon Burks is a tease for the Titans until proven otherwise
The key phrase in Burks showing up to camp in impressive shape for the third year in a row is "third year." He was a standout in each of the Titans' last two training camps before injuries and inconsistent play slowed his progress.
The Titans drafted wide receivers Elic Ayomanor and Chimere Dike in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, and signed veterans Tyler Lockett and Van Jefferson to compete with Burks in the wide receiver room behind number one option Calvin Ridley. Burks' career to this point has been underwhelming, to be nice, as he has less than 700 receiving yards and only one touchdown in his first three seasons.
He didn't even gain 50 receiving yards in the five games he played last season as the third receiver before his season-ending injury. Despite the lack of production, the team seems to be instilling the belief that there is something there after Cam Ward mentioned he would be one of his best targets if he remains healthy.
The healthy word is what has gotten the team in trouble with Burks in his first three seasons, and is one that is hard to overcome. He is still on the roster, and the wide receiver room isn't the greatest, so there is always a chance. However, if Titans fans want to go back down that rabbit hole of believing he can become a productive player for them, they need to think differently until proven otherwise.
