Late last night, word came out that former Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh was expected to land with the New York Giants as their next head coach. There were rumors that the Titans may have had a true chance at landing Harbaugh, but now he will be in the NFC East.
While that might bum Titans fans out on missing out the top head coaching candidate, losing John Harbaugh is more so losing a big name rather than losing a great vision for the Titans' organization.
There’s no denying that Harbaugh would have been an immediate dynamite hire for the Titans. He is a former Super Bowl champion, as well as a former Coach of the Year award winner back in 2019. At the same time, the Titans should be focusing on bringing in someone that is willing to work directly with Cam Ward, and also be patient with the roster building that Mike Borgonzi will be tasked to oversee.
Losing out on John Harbaugh is not the end of the world for Titans
Even though it may not feel like this, this head coaching cycle has a ton of solid candidates that the Titans should be focusing on. The Titans are in a position where they can truly start fresh with a top candidate that is ready to take the next step in his career. Or, the Titans could kick the gears on getting Kevin Stefanski in the building.
Stefanski is looking for his next head coaching gig after spending time with the Cleveland Browns, a situation where he was put in no-win scenarios yet he still found a way to become a two-time Coach of the Year. Not to mention, Stefanski would get a hopeful franchise quarterback in Cam Ward. He never had stability at quarterback and that was the difference maker for him in Cleveland.
Stefanski and Borgonzi would be the perfect pairing due to the fact that they have something to prove to the rest of the NFL. Stefanski is looking to show that he was not the issue in Cleveland, and Borgonzi will be looking to prove that he can build a contender just like he assisted with in Kansas City.
