The facts are the facts. The Super Bowl Era is now 58 years old, and the 2024 NFL title will be decided in New Orleans in February (LIX). However, some may be surprised to know that this championship series has been dominated by a few franchises.

The 58 Super Bowls have been captured by 20 franchises. The Pittsburgh Steelers and New England Patriots lead the way with six Lombardi Trophies. The San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys have each won the Super Bowl five times. The current champion Kansas City Chiefs, as well as the Green Bay Packers and New York Giants, have all hoisted the Lombardi Trophy four times. Those seven franchises own 34 of the 58 Super Bowl titles.

Of course, there’s the other side of the coin. A dozen NFL teams have never won a title during the Super Bowl Era. Four of those 12 clubs, the Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions, Houston Texans, and Jacksonville Jaguars, have never played on Super Sunday.

The Tennessee Titans’ lone Super Bowl appearance came in 1999, a 23-16 loss to the then-St. Louis Rams in Atlanta. The team made appearances in the 2002 and 2019 AFC title games, only to lose to the Raiders and Chiefs, respectively. Hence this remains one of the dozen franchises not to capture a Lombardi. So how does Brian Callahan’s club stack up in 2024 against the other 11 teams that have not won a Super Bowl?
