Grades for the Tennessee Titans and their AFC South rivals this offseason

Things were pretty dismal when it came to the AFC South in 2022. The Jacksonville Jaguars wound up capturing the top spot, the franchise’s first division title since 2017. They overcame a 4-8 start by winning their final five games to finish 9-8.

That was the highlight when it came to this foursome. The Tennessee Titans (7-10), Indianapolis Colts (4-12-1), and Houston Texans (3-13-1) all finished with double-digit losses and owned a combined 14-35-2 mark. Tennessee and Indianapolis closed the season with seven-game losing streaks.

What a difference a year makes. The Titans were the only one of the four to finish below .500 this past season. The Texans more than tripled their win total and won their first division title since 2019. The Colts went from four wins to nine victories. On the other hand, the Jaguars were 9-8 for the second straight year. This time around, the club dropped five of its final six games and missed the playoffs altogether.

This offseason was a busy one for three of the four clubs in terms of adding veteran talent. The other did an excellent job of retaining its own.

As for new head coach Brian Callahan and the Tennessee Titans, they are playing catch-up in a division that they won in 2020 and 2021. It’s a franchise with a 6-18 record in its last 24 games after a 7-3 start in 2022. That includes a combined 1-8 mark in their last eight divisional contests.

Along with the Titans, there are grades for the Texans, Colts, and Jaguars. Remember, the key here is “so far.”
