First Titans injury report for Week 3 is extremely encouraging
By Justin Melo
The Tennessee Titans held their first practice of the week on Wednesday ahead of Sunday's Week 3 contest against the Green Bay Packers. Brian Callahan's Titans will attempt to get their first victory of the season as they prepare for their second consecutive home game. Running back Tyjae Spears is the lone concern on Wednesday's injury report. Spears did not practice with an ankle injury.
Spears momentarily exited Sunday's Week 2 defeat to the New York Jets with that same ankle injury. NFL Network analyst Ian Rapoport quickly reported that Spears would be "fine."
Spears was limited to 20 rushing yards and 3.3 yards per carry in Sunday's loss to the Jets. He also recorded two receptions for 11 additional yards. Tony Pollard once again carried the majority of the workload, rushing for 62 yards. The Titans need to get Spears involved in the offense. We'll monitor his practice status on Thursday and Friday, as well as his final designation for Sunday's showdown with the Packers.
Veteran cornerback L'Jarius Sneed and defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons received veteran rest days. Sneed has been as advertised, with the Titans asking him to shadow opposing No. 1 receivers. Simmons hasn't been very productive as a pass rusher yet, but he's making plays in the backfield and occupying blocks to allow teammates like Harold Landry to make impact plays.
Packers
The big story of Wednesday's injury report was that Packers starting quarterback Jordan Love returned to practice as a limited participant. Love suffered an MCL injury in a Week 1 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. He hasn't practiced or played since, with former Titans QB Malik Willis getting the start in Week 2's victory over the Indianapolis Colts.
Elsewhere, the Packers had a ton of absentees at practice. Offensive linemen Elgton Jenkins (illness/glute) and Jordan Morgan (shoulder) did not practice. Jenkins is the Packers' best blocker and would be missed at left guard if he fails to suit up.
Wide receiver Jayden Reed (calf) and cornerback Carrington Valentine (ankle) also did not practice. Reed is an outstanding three-level playmaker and if healthy, could be a big part of Matt LaFleur's game plan, especially if Willis earns the start.
Running back Josh Jacobs, defensive tackle Kenny Clark, offensive linemen Josh Myers and Zach Tom, and tight end Tucker Kraft were among the limited participants. That indicates they're all likely to play, but there's no denying the Packers have some big-time names on Wednesday's injury report.
