On Tuesday, new Tennessee Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi reminded everyone that Senior Bowl week isn't only about the NFL Draft.
The primary function of the Senior Bowl is for prospects to get a chance to show what they can do one last time in front of scouts, GMs, and coaches. However, when you have decision-makers and agents in the same place, you can understand why a flood of draft and free-agency rumors emerge from Mobile.
Titans fans don't have to wait for rumors to leak out about their team, because Borgonzi continues to be very transparent with the media about what they are thinking heading into the offseason.
Borgonzi was asked about what the biggest needs are in free agency this year, and he didn't mince words when he said that the offensive line was going to be the team's top priority in free agency.
"We have some holes to fill on the offensive line, that will be No.1.
...and then just depth level across the whole team right now. Creating competition is going to be the biggest thing, whether it's through free agency, through the draft. There might be a guy that we sign off the street, a workout guy, but we want to build the fronts first, offensive and defensive line, and then build depth along the perimeter."
It doesn't get more clear than that. The top priority in free agency will be the offensive line (right guard and right tackle), and a starting EDGE and some depth at defensive tackle is probably somewhere high on the list of needs.
The good news for the Titans is, if they are willing to spend, the free agent class has some talented offensive linemen that could be available.
According to ESPN's free agent rankings, here are the offensive linemen that landed in their top-50:
2. Trey Smith RG, Kansas City Chiefs
3. Ronnie Stanley LT, Baltimore Ravens
14. Cam Robinson LT, Jacksonville Jaguars
19. Will Fries RG, Indianapolis Colts
21. Zack Martin RG, Dallas Cowboys (likely to retire)
30. Mekhi Becton RG, Philadelphia Eagles
35. Kevin Zeitler RG, Detroit Lions
38. James Daniels RG, Pittsburgh Steelers
40. Alaric Jackson LT, L.A. Rams
41. Teven Jenkins LG, Chicago Bears
Considering that the team has said that J.C. Latham could move to right tackle if the team falls in love with a left tackle, the only position I excluded on that list was centers. Those 10 offensive linemen could all slot in and earn a starting spot with the Titans quickly, and if Bill Callahan gives any of them the stamp of approval, the franchise has the money to go out and get a deal done.
This makes perfect sense on paper, but the team has said they'll focus primarily on drafting and developing, so time will tell how much they will actually spend this offseason. However, it is hard to imagine a world where none of the listed veterans are on the Titans' roster next year with another starter potentially arriving via the 2025 NFL Draft.
