The Tennessee Titans finished yet another disappointing season, winning just three games in 2025. They ended the Brian Callahan experiment early in the year after Tennessee had gone just 1-5 in the first six games of the season so Titans fans have known that this team would be searching for a new head coach in the offseason.
According to Jordan Schultz, Tennessee has requested to interview Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy. Titans fans knew that Nagy was going to be a serious candidate for the vacant head coaching job due to his connection with GM Mike Borgonzi, as the two previously worked together in Kansas City.
Nagy first got his start in the NFL under Andy Reid in Philadelphia and followed him to Kansas City in 2013. His first notable NFL job was as the quarterbacks coach from 2013 to 2015 and he was promoted to offensive coordinator in 2016.
Titans request HC interview with Chiefs OC Matt Nagy
Following an impressive 2017 season as the Chiefs OC, Nagy was hired by the Bears as their head coach, a position he held for four years. Nagy showed some potential in Chicago, he finished with a winning record of 34-31 but the fans there were underwhelmed with him and he was fired following a 6-11 season in 2021.
After getting canned by Chicago, Nagy returned to Kansas City in 2022 and landed back in his offensive coordinator job in 2023, a position he's held ever since. Given the state of the Chiefs offense the past few years, Titans fans probably won't be thrilled by the team interviewing Nagy.
The Chiefs are coming off their worst year since 2012 and while, yes, Patrick Mahomes was injured and missed the final month or so, their offense was bad even before then. Yet, that hasn't stopped the Titans from interviewing him and looking to potentially bring him in as their next head coach.
The fact of the matter is that the Titans need to get this hire right. They saw some real potential in Cam Ward in the back half of the season and now they need to find a head coach who can bring out the absolute best in him. Nagy doesn't feel like the ideal fit here but if his connection with Borgonzi is strong enough, he might be the next head coach of the Tennessee Titans whether fans like it or not.
The Titans also requested an interview with Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo.
