Tennessee Titans EDGE Arden Key has consistently landed himself in hot water in recent weeks. There was the now-infamous plane story where Key apparently disagreed with Cam Ward's "never satisfied" attitude following a Week 14 win over the Cleveland Browns. More recently, the veteran pass rusher landed on the bad side of his coaching staff.
Key complained about a lack of halftime adjustments in the Week 15 loss to San Francisco. It came off as a confusing critique, given the Titans lost three safeties to injury in the first half. Defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson replied by strongly opposing Key's narrative. Interim head coach Mike McCoy wasn't pleased either.
There are three remaining contests in the Titans' wasted 2025 campaign. Key is on an expiring contract. It's safe to assume general manager Mike Borgonzi won't be re-signing Key in the offseason.
Titans EDGE Arden Key is entering his final stretch in Nashville
Key was signed to a three-year contract during the 2023 offseason by then-GM Ran Carthon. Carthon and Key were familiar with one another from their shared days with the 49ers. Now that Borgonzi has taken over, it's difficult to envision a future role for the experienced pass rusher on this rebuilding squad.
Nor has Key been productive enough as a pass rusher for the Titans throughout 2025. The former LSU Tigers standout has registered just four sacks. He ranks fourth on the defense in that department, and one of the defenders out-producing him is Dre'Mont Jones, who was traded in November. So is Jihad Ward, who was a third-wave free-agent signing at a fraction of Key's salary.
The Titans need to revamp their pass-rushing position this offseason. A dynamic threat at EDGE is high on the to-do list. Key almost certainly isn't factored into Borgonzi's plans. After a pair of confusing run-ins with players and the coaching staff, Key is inching closer to his Titans tenure reaching its conclusion.
