Back in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, the Tennessee Titans thought they had a franchise cornerstone in Arkansas wide receiver Treylon Burks. The Titans selected him with the 18th overall pick in hopes that he'd be around a long time.
Unfortunately, Burks quickly took on the "bust" label and, after just over three years in Tennessee, he was cut from the team.
The former Razorback was officially cut loose from the Titans on October 7, but it didn't take long for the phone to start ringing. Just this week, Burks reportedly visited the Denver Broncos and is now going to meet with the Washington Commanders as well.
Treylon Burks could find himself a new NFL team very soon
Burks' offseason was cut short by a few weeks when he suffered a fractured collarbone in training camp back on July 26. After serving a stint on injured reserve, Burks could be officially waived by the Titans.
Now, he very well could catch on with a winning team like the Broncos or Commanders.
Washington might be a good fit for Burks since they have been dealing with injuries to their top two wide receivers in Terry McLaurin and Deebo Samuel. McLaurin suffered a quad injury in Week 3 of this year and has yet to come back from it. Meanwhile, Samuel recently played. through a heel injury he'd been working his way past.
Should Burks catch on with the Commanders, he'd find himself having the best quarterback play of his career, by far, to this point. Meanwhile, Burks has had the likes of Ryan Tannehill, Will Levis and the initial stages of rookie Cam Ward.
Still at just 25 yers old, Burks has plenty of time to prove he belongs. His career in Tennessee never took off as the tantalizing collegiate traits simply didn't translate to the NFL. But, there is potential for another system and coaching staff to help guide him in the right direction.
Although it didn't work out in Tennessee, Titans fans may as well root for his success elsewhere at this point. Hopefully, for his sake, he's able to get a deal done with one of the interested teams in the near future.
