The Tennessee Titans paid a premium to address a long-running problem this offseason. New general manager Mike Borgonzi signed free-agent left tackle Dan Moore Jr. to a four-year contract worth $82 million. After years of lackluster left tackle play, the Titans believe they finally have a solution.
One of the worst performances the organization received at the blindside position in recent memory was by Dennis Daley. Then-GM Jon Robinson acquired Daley in August of 2022. He became the starter after Taylor Lewan suffered a season-ending injury in Week 2, and put forth a season-long showcase remembered by all Titans fans for the wrong reasons.
Daley was one-and-done in Tennessee. He played the 2023 season with the Arizona Cardinals, and earlier this offseason, signed a futures/reserve contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Well, it turns out Daley has no interest in actually playing for the Titans' AFC South rival. Daley was placed on the reserve/retired list, indicating he plans to hang up his cleats.
Former Titans bust Dennis Daley would rather retire than play for AFC South rival
Daley was an absolute nightmare for the Titans in 2022. The former South Carolina standout was credited with allowing 12 sacks by Pro Football Focus, second-most in the NFL that season. Daley allowed a whopping 52 pressures and was also whistled for seven penalties.
The Titans believe they've fixed their offensive line this offseason. Moore will play left tackle next to budding superstar Peter Skoronski. On the right side, sophomore tackle JC Latham appears primed to take a step forward, and veteran free-agent addition Kevin Zeitler adds experience and leadership at right guard.
The nightmare of watching tackles like Daley fail to protect the quarterback in Nashville is over. Daley is now officially retiring after six campaigns. It represents another embarrassment for the Jaguars in the AFC South.
