The Tennessee Titans are close to having a truly elite defense. Whether it is a defensive tackle, linebacker, or defensive back, it seems like they are just one playmaker away from being a terrifying matchup for opposing offenses.

If they want to take their shot, it looks like a new window opened in the form of Arizona Cardinals EDGE, Josh Sweat.

After leaving the Philadelphia Eagles to sign a massive contract with the Cardinals a year ago, Sweat went on to have a career year with 12 sacks. The season didn't go the way they wanted, and they ended up firing the coaching staff, which included Jonathan Gannon, who was his defensive coordinator with the Eagles.

Now Sweat is skipping OTAs and it seems like he wants out of Arizona.

Tennessee Titans should emerge as potential landing spot for EDGE Josh Sweat

Throw in the massive caveat that the Titans will almost certainly decline any trade that involves one of their top-100 picks, and it would make so much sense for Mike Borgonzi to pursue this. This would give this defense three elite pass rushers for their defensive front (along with Jeffery Simmons and John Franklin-Myers), and it would put other EDGEs like Jermaine Johnson, Femi Oladejo, and Keldric Faulk in ideal situations.

The Titans could absorb the massive contract and still have more available cap space than anyone else in the NFL, and it would allow the coaching staff to bring Oladejo and Faulk along slowly instead of potentially forcing them into bigger roles than they're ready for.

Sweat will turn 29 this season, but he is coming off the best season of his career, and he has played in 16+ games for five straight seasons. Acquiring Sweat would be a sound investment for the Titans in the short-term and the long-term.

While there is always the possibility of the front office signing one of the veteran EDGEs still floating around the market, no one is going to give the team high-floor, high-ceiling potential like Sweat can.

The interest here shouldn't be a one-sided thing either because a trade to the Titans would send Sweat outside of the NFC. The Cardinals would gain a mid-round pick from a team that has picked in the top-five in back-to-back seasons, which should be appealing to them.

It also helps that the AFC South is looked down on as a whole, and it is a much more appealing place to play than his current situation, where he is forced to play the Seattle Seahawks, L.A. Rams, and San Francisco 49ers twice a year.
