Brian Callahan already had a low approval rating entering the Tennessee Titans' Week 6 game against the Las Vegas Raiders, and after losing 20-10 on Sunday, it’s safe to say his rating has dropped even lower. If not for a few fortuitous bounces in Week 5, the second-year head coach would still be searching for his first win of the season. Instead, the Titans are an abysmal 1-5 under his lead.
The record, alone, is disappointing but not surprising. What is disheartening, though, is how bad Tennessee’s offense has looked. That was especially on display Sunday, against a Raiders defense that had struggled in recent weeks. The Titans’ inability to take advantage of a struggling defense is the ultimate indictment of Brian Callahan.

Titans offense couldn’t even produce against a struggling Raiders offense
In the three weeks prior to facing Tennessee, Las Vegas allowed 35.3 points per game. The Raiders lost to the Washington Commanders 41-24, the Chicago Bears, 25-24, and the Indianapolis Colts 40-6. Against the Titans, however, Vegas put together the kind of defensive game that had the commentators praising the Raiders’ defensive coordinator.
Tennessee only had 225 total yards, was 3-of-13 on third down, gave up six sacks, and turned the ball over three times. Of course, the Titans have several issues they are working through on the offensive side of the ball, but one would think that Callahan, a coach who was hired for his work as an offensive coordinator, would be able to scheme up some production against a below average defense.
However, the offensive-minded head coach wasn’t able to do that on Sunday. That begs the question, is there anything Callahan can lean on right now as a coach? The answer is seemingly no, and that’s why his seat is so hot.
