It didn't take long for the Tennessee Titans to make fans forget the thrill of their Week 5 win over the Arizona Cardinals. They returned to their previous form in Week 6, losing to the Las Vegas Raiders by a score of 20-10.
Prior to this game, the Raiders had looked like one of the worst teams in the NFL. The Titans were generous enough to give them a get right game, in a slow-moving battle defined by offensive mishaps.
After another difficult loss, let's take a look at some winners and losers from the Titans' Week 6 game.
Winners and losers from Titans' Week 6 loss
Loser: Brian Callahan's job security
Brian Callahan's seat was starting to get a bit warm after his team's 0-4 start. The electric win over the Cardinals was enough to quiet the calls for his job, but his doubters will be back after this one. Tennessee was penalized seven times for 34 yards in this game and turned the ball over three times. It was a sloppy game in which Callahan's offensive prowess was once again questionable. It would be shocking if he were fired this early, but this loss was a step in the wrong direction.
Winner: Jeffrey Simmons
If this team has a superstar-caliber player, it's Jeffrey Simmons. The defensive lineman did all he could to impact the game, tallying six tackles, two tackles for loss, one sack, and two quarterback hits.
Even in the middle of a brutal season for the Titans, Simmons is making a strong case for a Pro Bowl spot.
Loser: Offensive line
Cam Ward was under fire all day long. He was sacked six times for 62 yards, but he was pressured consistently throughout the game. Even with J.C. Latham back on the field, the line was unable to protect their quarterback.
The unit was a bit better in the running game, but they'll need to keep Ward upright if they want to turn things around.
Winner: Tyjae Spears
There was no question who the more explosive Titans' running back was on Sunday. Tyjae Spears was electric in his limited role, carrying the ball five times for 31 yards and catching four passes for 19 yards.
Meanwhile, Tony Pollard had just 34 yards on his 10 carries. He is likely still the leader in this backfield moving forward, but Spears is making a strong case for a larger role.
Loser: Fans
This has already been a brutal season for fans in Tennessee. In most games, the Titans have looked like one of the worst teams in the NFL. That was the case again on Sunday, despite a few exciting moments.
The Titans need to put out a better product, or fans' frustration will reach a boiling point.
