It has already been an eventful week for the Tennessee Titans. On Tuesday, head coach Brian Callahan made the decision to bench quarterback Will Levis in favor of backup Mason Rudolph.
The aftermath of said decision has been about what you would expect, with the typical coach speak stating Levis wasn't doing enough to win football games and he was far too inconsistent.
There was plenty to be said about the quarterback situation from Callahan during his press conference on Wednesday, and he covered the topic at length. However, after much of the quarterback conversation, Callahan received one particular question that set him off in a way we haven't quite yet seen from him.
During his time with the media, Callahan was asked about those who might call the Titans "soft," and of all days, Wednesday was apparently not the time to make such an accusation.
"Do you really want to get me going today? It's total bulls**t. These guys are tough f***ers. These guys play their a** off. They play hard, they play physical ... I'm not going to stand for anyone calling this football team soft ... I'd like you to walk in there and call one of these guys soft and see what happens ... No chance in hell would I ever admit that. You can kind of shove that one right up your a**," said the head coach.
Brian Callahan has done things his way, and hopefully it starts to work
Fans probably love seeing such a fiery response from their head coach, especially amid a season that's featured so much losing.
It also comes during a season where we've seen some head coaches fired, while others are likely on their way out. At the very least, fans can rest assured they have a head coach who is going to put it all on the line for his team and coach them hard.
More Titans news:
Callahan has made it a point to coach his team hard this year, specifically a player like Levis. We can't be sure which direction the Titans are going to go at quarterback in the coming weeks or months, but Callahan definitely deserves his chance to go pick "his" guy.
The Titans do play hard. Callahan isn't wrong. And, with the right quarterback under center, maybe this team isn't that far away. After all, the defense still stacks up as the no. 2 unit in the NFL in terms of yards allowed per game.
With a hard-nosed head coach who clearly wants to do whatever is necessary to win, and the players in place right now, hopefully things start to turn around once Callahan is able to hand-pick the team's next quarterback.
