The last thing the Tennessee Titans want is for a team with a top-10 pick to find an answer to their quarterback question before the 2025 NFL Draft.
Today, news broke that Matthew Stafford would be staying with the Los Angeles Rams, which means that the Cleveland Browns, New York Giants, Las Vegas Raiders, New York Jets, and New Orleans Saints all still have to attempt to find a quarterback this offseason. The Giants and Raiders were particularly interested in Stafford, but are now forced to pivot to alternatives.
Sam Darnold likely ends up with one of those teams as the top free-agent quarterback option, but what about the other teams? Even if they sign another quarterback in free agency like Aaron Rodgers, they need to draft a quarterback to compete with that veteran, or to replace them in a year.
Yesterday, Benjamin Allbright dropped the news that he had been hearing that a trade between the Giants and Titans was very likely to take place if the Giants couldn't land Stafford in a trade.
That was reinforced on Friday morning when Art Stapleton (Giants beat writer) tweeted this:
Still feeling that a Giants-Titans trade for No. 1 is the most likely outcome here with Stafford staying with the Rams, but we'll see. @DMRussini says Stafford and the Rams will meet together at their facility, so should get strong indication either way at some point soon. https://t.co/p6PAqpVQfT

The Giants are the dream trade candidate for the Titans because Mike Borgonzi could trade down and still be guaranteed a chance to draft one of the top prospects in the draft in Abdul Carter or Travis Hunter. However, it isn't just the Giants who are contenders for the Titans' top selection.
It is smokescreen season, so take it with a grain of salt, but rumors have spread that everyone from the Saints to the Dallas Cowboys have called the Titans about the potential of trading up in the first round.
Between a bad crop of free agent quarterbacks and a down year for prospects in the draft, it is slim pickings out there for teams that need a signal caller. While the Titans also need an answer at that position, it sounds like they are considering kicking the can down the road until better perceived options are available.
The general consensus agrees there isn't an elite quarterback prospect in this class who can succeed with a weak supporting cast around them. Meanwhile, the Titans don't have a great supporting cast in place. So putting those two things together, the goal should be to set up the team to get better in 2025 before making a rash decision at quarterback.
