On Tuesday, the NFL saw a couple of major quarterback decisions made between the Atlanta Falcons choosing to bench Kirk Cousins in favor of rookie Michael Penix Jr., and then our very own Tennessee Titans opting to end the Will Levis era, for now.
Brian Callahan made the call to send Levis to the bench in favor of veteran Mason Rudolph.
We knew Levis had to be benched. We knew he had been bad this season, turning the ball over at an alarming rate. But, just how bad had it gotten?
Levis is averaging 1.6 turnovers per game, which is the most for any quarterback that's started 11 or more games since 2019, when Jameis Winston had his infamous 33 touchdown, 30 interception campaign.
While he's been a likable guy since coming to Tennessee, Levis has been just plain bad. This year, he's thrown 12 interceptions -- four of which have been returned for a touchdown. Think about that for a second.
One out of every interception thrown by Levis has been returned for a touchdown. That's an absolutely atrocious stat; even more alarming than the one above comparing him to Winston.
The writing was on the wall for Will Levis to be benched at some point this season
The Titans' roster was supposed to be much-improved, this year. To be frank, it really was. The organization added a lot of talent all over the place, but Levis' inability to lead the offense has resulted in this very decision by Callahan.
Tennessee has enough talent to compete within the division, just not under center. Callahan has been frustrated with Levis all season long. We've seen it. He's publicly called out his quarterback on multiple occasions and, while we've also heard him support Levis, it's been pretty obvious that the negatives outweigh the positives.
What in the world are the Titans going to do at quarterback after this season? At the moment, they are set to pick no. 6 overall in the 2025 NFL Draft, but that could change for worse or for better depending on how these last three weeks shake out.
Just a couple of wins from other teams like the Raiders, Giants, among a few others, might change things drastically for Tennessee. You never know what's going to happen over these final three games, but the Titans are at least in line to have a chance at a franchise quarterback in the upcoming draft.
What we do know is this: Levis is likely done in Tennessee.
