Brian Callahan's postgame comments don't bode well for Will Levis' job security

Oof, this isn't a good look for Levis.

It wasn't just another defeat in Week 15. Stop me if you've heard this before. Tennessee Titans head coach Brian Callahan was not happy with his quarterback, Will Levis, on Sunday.

With just over seven minutes to go in the third quarter of the Titans' Week 15 game against the Cincinnati Bengals, Levis threw his third interception on the day. This wasn't just his third interception, though.

This was his third interception on only 12 attempts.

It was also returned for a touchdown by Cincinnati, putting the Bengals up 31-14 with the game looking like it was over at that point.

From there, Callahan opted to bench Levis in favor of backup Mason Rudolph, who came in and went 21-of-26 for 209 yards, two touchdowns and a pick of his own in a quarter and a half.

Following the game, head coach Brian Callahan was asked plenty of questions about his quarterback situation. When it came to Levis, specifically, the head coach said he was not going to make any statements.

That's ... pretty telling. You know what else is telling? When a coach openly admits the negatives outweigh the positives.

"Do you feel that those positives, wholeheartedly, outweigh the negatives?" he was asked by ESPN Titans beat reporter Turron Davenport.

"I think there's definitely a lot of positives that I do like and I am excited about. But there's too many negatives that don't give us a chance to win the game, and that's where we're at right now.

"We're trying to win games and we're not getting enough positive plays in a row," Callahan said.

The Will Levis-Mason Rudolph conversation is becoming a 'rinse, wash, repeat' type of situation

This is now the second time, this season, in which the Titans have had Rudolph take over and it resulted in a potential quarterback controversy.

The first time, of course, happened after Levis was hurt a while back in a Week 4 game against the Miami Dolphins. On an interim basis, this made Rudolph the starter. He would go on to start three games while Levis recovered in which the Titans went 1-2.

Rudolph threw for 721 yards, four touchdowns and four interceptions in that span. He was also only sacked a total of five times in those three contests. One might argue that, under Rudolph, the offense has looked better at times. But, it must also be noted that, during those three starts, the Titans never scored more than 20 points.

Is Rudolph a better option to start at this point? Maybe.

But, if Callahan were to bench Levis with just three games remaining, that would pretty much signal the end of his time in Tennessee. This doesn't feel like a Bryce Young or Anthony Richardson situation. Levis has played far worse and made even more damaging decisions than Young or Richardson, by comparison.

Stay tuned to see what Callahan opts to do in the coming days.
