The Tennessee Titans just wrapped up Thursday's training camp practice. For the second consecutive session, the only absentees were cornerback L'Jarius Sneed and center Lloyd Cushenberry, who are both on the PUP list.
That's the injury roundup for Thursday's practice, but which players managed to stand out — for better or worse? Let's take a closer look at what occurred at Thursday's training camp session.
Winner: TE Gunnar Helm
Rookie pass catcher Gunnar Helm continues to impress. On one rep in particular, captured by John Glennon, Helm nearly came up with a one-handed grab near the sidelines. He hauled it in, but may have stepped out of bounds before completing the catch. Still, it offered a peek into his capabilities.
Loser: WR Chimere Dike
Rookie wide receiver Chimere Dike dropped a Cam Ward pass on this simple slant route. It's just one drop, but Dike is attempting to compete for a role behind Calvin Ridley and Tyler Lockett. With so many receivers contending for snaps, reps like this one won't do him any favors on the depth chart.
Winner: LB Cody Barton
Veteran linebacker Cody Barton intercepted rookie quarterback Cam Ward on the first pass of seven-on-seven, per Will Boling. That marks Barton's third interception of Ward in offseason workouts. He nearly had another pick, but settled for a pass breakup on a pass intended for David Martin-Robinson. The free-agent signing has clearly been Tennessee's best coverage linebacker.
Loser: WR James Proche II
Veteran wide receiver James Proche II is in a roster battle at a loaded position. Proche II dropped a back-shoulder pass from Tim Boyle. He's also in competition on special teams, but self-inflicted mistakes won't increase his chances of making the roster, though he did record a nice catch later in the period.
Winner: S Kevin Winston Jr.
It's a huge win that rookie safety Kevin Winston Jr. is fully available for camp after suffering a partially torn ACL at Penn State last season. It didn't take Winston Jr. long to make an impact. During the second-team seven-on-seven period, the versatile defensive back wrestled away a Brandon Allen pass intended for tight end Josh Whyle for an interception, per Glennon.
Winner: EDGE Femi Oladejo
Rookie EDGE Femi Oladejo has been a regular first-teamer through two training camp practices. On Thursday, his pressure forced a Cam Ward throwaway. It's early, but Oladejo is seemingly practicing his way into the starting lineup.
