Tennessee Titans players are competing for something beyond wins and losses down the stretch of a wasted campaign. It goes without saying that Brian Callahan's offense hasn't been good enough in his debut season. Despite that, these three Titans are closing in on statistical milestones on offense.
Tony Pollard
New addition Tony Pollard is just 18 yards away from his third consecutive 1,000-yard season. The former Memphis running back has been the MVP of the Titans' offense, and he is on track to have a career year in his first season playing under Callahan's wing. While Ran Carthon's free-agency spending spree hasn't yielded the results fans wanted, Pollard has lived up to his sizable three-year, $21.75 million contract.
Nick Westbrook-Ikhine
Nick Westbrook-Ikhine is on his third straight one-year contract with the Titans, and this was the one that should finally earn him a more lucrative deal in the future. The former undrafted free agent is just two touchdowns away from having a 10-TD season. If Westbrook-Ikhine manages to catch three touchdowns in Tennessee's final three games, he will tie the Titans-era record for most receiving touchdowns in a single season.
Calvin Ridley
Reactions were mixed when the Titans signed Calvin Ridley this offseason, but he's offered the offense good value. He's Callahan's leading receiver by a mile with 779 yards, and if he can have a three-game stretch with 221-or-more yards to finish the season, he will be in the 1,000-yard club for the third time in the last four seasons.
That number might seem out of reach for Ridley, but the graphic above shows how good Ridley has been at hitting chunk plays this year. He is tied for the third-most 35-plus yard receptions this season and is currently on a nine-game streak of catching at least one explosive pass (20-plus yards).
These goals will be difficult to achieve, though Pollard will almost certainly hit 1,000 rushing yards in the first half against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday.
Once Pollard hits that total, fans can shift their attention to whether or not he surpasses
1,500 yards from scrimmage. Pollard is only 285 yards away from that landmark, and that would be more yards than Derrick Henry had for the Titans last year. He would join Henry (three times) and DeMarco Murray (once) as the only Titans to generate that man yards from scrimmage since Chris Johnson did it in 2010.
