NFL legend Gil Brandt earned his “Godfather” monicker because he made the trades that set up the Dallas Cowboys dynasty. So, with that being said, when he says that the Tennessee Titans made the biggest trade of the offseason, everyone in or following the NFL should take note.

In a ranking for NFL.com, he put together a list of the top-ten trades of the offseason. Specifically, the ranking was designed to explain which players are poised for the best season with their new team.

While players like Orlando Brown, Carson Wentz, Matthew Stafford, and Sam Darnold were traded for higher draft compensation, no one is in a better position than Julio Jones.

Brandt puts things this way:

"The two-time first-team All-Pro will be a definite upgrade over Corey Davis as a complementary receiver opposite emerging star A.J. Brown. Jones should flourish as a deep threat in Tennessee’s play-action passing game working with Ryan Tannehill, one of just seven quarterbacks to post a passer rating on throws of 20-plus air yards of 100 or better in each of the past two seasons, per Next Gen Stats. The 32-year-old Jones will be highly motivated to show how much he has left coming off his final season in Atlanta, when he was limited by injury."

Tennessee Titans face the bittersweet truth

Tennessee Titans fans started to really fall in love with Corey Davis in 2020, and rightfully so. Don’t forget, Davis led the team in receiving yards until the final game of the season (in fact, he led the Titans until the second half of the final game).

However, even die-hard believers in Corey Davis would have to admit that Julio Jones offers more upside and a higher floor than the Titans’ former first-round pick.

No one knows exactly what the Tennessee Titans offense is going to look like in 2021 and that is equal parts exciting and scary. The good news is, GM Jon Robinson has done a great job making sure that the team is so talented that it really doesn’t matter what it looks like.

Want to throw more passes and save Derrick Henry for the playoffs? That means more volume for Julio Jones, A.J. Brown, Josh Reynolds, and Anthony Firkser in the passing game.

Then again, if you want to lean on the rushing game while chemistry builds between Ryan Tannehill, Julio Jones, and Josh Reynolds, that is fine too. Derrick Henry is still King Henry and he now has a new and improved offensive line in front of him and a dynamic back behind him to give him rest if he ever needs it.

The Titans have one of pro football’s best rosters, and a big reason for that is the domino effect caused by Jon Robinson making the NFL’s biggest trade of the offseason.
