Are the Titans tipping their hand?

Lost in the outpouring of free agency news for the Tennessee Titans, there was some subtle but very important news about GM Jon Robinson in an interview from Jim Wyatt.

During that interview, he said just what you would expect from a GM after the bulk of free agency is over and with the NFL Draft starting to loom large.

Aside from the normal “the goal is to make the team better” mantra that he and 30 other GMs in the NFL have, the big takeaway was that Jon Robinson is going to attend multiple Pro Days this week.

The exact quote from the article is:

"Robinson plans to attend some Pro Days this week, and he’ll continue to do zoom calls with prospects."

The two questions that will come from this are: “Why is this important?” and “Which Pro Days?”

Last year proved that in-person scouting (as well as talking to coaches) is a big part of the Tennessee Titans scouting process. When you can get boots on the ground at a school, you can talk to the coaches, assistant coaches, bartenders, cafeteria workers, or anyone who might have had any contact with a player.

Background work is crucial and they can’t make the same mistake that they did last year.

To my knowledge, these will be the first Pro Days that Robinson has attended this season, so this might be the tiebreaker between prospects in the 2021 NFL Draft.

The other big question is which Pro Days Jon Robinson might attend and luckily we covered which Pro Days occur when and which prospects the Titans might be looking at two weeks ago.

Here is a list of the Pro Days happening “this week”:

"Monday, March 22 — Air Force, Bowling Green, Colorado State, Florida State, Iowa, Missouri, Toledo.Tuesday, March 23 — Alabama, Central Michigan, Iowa State, Nebraska, Purdue.Wednesday, March 24 — Michigan State, Mississippi State, South Carolina, Southern California, Virginia.Thursday, March 25 — Georgia Southern, Massachusetts, Mississippi, North Texas, Penn State, San Diego State, Southern Methodist, Tennessee, Western Michigan.Friday, March 26 — Boston College, Brigham Young, Michigan, South Dakota State, Virginia Tech."

That is a lot of info

To help break this down and make it a little bit more digestible, I am going to redo this and make a list below of the schools with players who are most likely to go in the first 64 picks. The reason I stopped at 64 is that the Titans have never taken a player in the third round from a Power 5 school, but he does love to take prospects from blue-blood schools in the first two rounds (specifically the SEC).

I have highlighted the players that I think the Titans will most likely consider from this list based on need.

-Florida State: Asante Samuel Jr. CB

-Iowa: Daviyon Nixon DL

-Alabama: DeVonta Smith WR, Jaylen Waddle WR, Patrick Surtain CB, Christian Barmore DL, Najee Harris RB, Landon Dickerson OL, Alex Leatherwood OL, Mac Jones QB, Deonte Brown iOL, and Dylan Moses LB.

-Purdue: Rondale Moore WR

-South Carolina: Jaycee Horn CB

More from Titan Sized

-USC: Alijah Vera-Tucker OL

-Ole Miss: Elijah Moore WR

-Penn State: Micah Parsons LB, Jayson Oweh EDGE, and Pat Freiermuth TE

-Tennessee: Trey Smith OL

-BYU: Zach Wilson QB

-Michigan: Kwity Paye EDGE

-Virginia Tech: Caleb Farley CB and Christian Darrisaw OT

So keep an eye out for which Pro Day(s) Jon Robinson actually attends and then flip back to this if you need a refresher on which player or players the Titans would be most likely to select from these schools.
