Bud Dupree

With both of these guys, you have to start with the question, “Where will he line up?” and for Dupree that question is generally pretty easy to answer.

For the most part, Dupree is going to line up on the right side of the defense on the outside shoulder of the tight end or left tackle.

The next question is, “How will he change the defense?” and that is pretty easy to answer too. Dupree wins with a violent upfield burst that forces offensive tackles to play unsound technique and his high effort and burst helps put him in a position to make plays on the front of the back side of plays.

He can drop into coverage and play the flats, but mostly you want him using that upfield speed.

Finally, “How productive is he?” Looking at sustained volume, Dupree was one of the most dominant EDGE available (spoiler, there is also some Autry info there as well for later).

Another way to look at this is by taking his sacks and TFL, dividing them up into per-game stats, and projecting what he would look like over a 16 game schedule.

Looking at it that way, over the last two years he is on pace to be a guy who gets 11.5 sacks and 14.5 TFLs. Those are very good numbers and worth the big contract that he was given from the Titans.
