Delanie Walker

Like most Titans fans, it was clear that Jon Robinson loved Delanie Walker during his stint in Tennessee. However, the salary cap and injuries were just too much for Walker to overcome and he spent 2020 away from football.

Now, I don’t know that spending a year away from football was his plan, but it is certainly being framed like that. Regardless, Walker put out the notice that he wanted to play in 2021 via Adam Schefter today.

Walker is up there in age like Cameron Wake and Jonathan Joseph, and he will be 37 before the season starts.

However, he has always been someone who takes care of his body and we are living in a world where Jason Witten, Larry Fitzgerald, Jason Peters, Mercedes Lewis, and Richie Incognito all played at 37 or older last year.

Like Rudolph, I don’t think that anyone is going to think that Delanie Walker is going to step in and be the primary tight end on a roster. However, having him as a capable TE2 with experience as an inline blocker and as a receiver isn’t a crazy idea.

I think some team is going to buy low on him and think that he is going to be a 30 target guy in the NFL next year who can give you some solid reps, and if that is your plan for him then go ahead and bring him in.

Basically, the whole coaching staff is familiar with Delanie Walker, but Mike Vrabel and Todd Downing specifically would be the key voices here. For a team that missed veteran leadership at times last season, Walker would bring that in spades, and in an ideal world, he gets to have the send-off that he deserved instead of a tailspin of injuries.
