Great expectations for Titans offense.

We are now just 5 weeks away from the first NFL game, and for the first time in a long time, it feels like the Tennessee Titans offense is expected to do big things heading into the season.

Sheil Kapadia of The Athletic had the difficult task of going through every team in the NFL and taking their offense from last season, factoring in their changes on that side of the ball, and then ranking them heading into the 2020 NFL season.

Slightly surprisingly, the Titans ended up getting a lot of respect here and were ranked 9th in the NFL after finishing 6th last season.

Kapadia came to the conclusion that most people came to when looking over the Titans 2019 offense. The offense revolves around Derrick Henry, but it will boom if Ryan Tannehill is good:

"Tannehill became the second player in NFL history (Joe Montana was the first) to complete over 70 percent of his passes and average over 9 yards per attempt. The chances of him repeating that performance are slim. If Tannehill regresses slightly and is still a top-10 quarterback, the Titans will be in good shape."

Basically, Ryan Tannehill was an outstanding quarterback even though no one was paying attention to him, and there is likely to be some regression. However, that doesn’t mean that the Titans have to be bad this year, because he can regress quite a bit and still be a top-10 QB in the NFL.

The Titans made a great trade for Ryan Tannehill and all they had to give up for him was a 4th round pick. To put that in perspective, that is less than they are getting back just for letting Jack Conklin walk in free agency (a compensatory 3rd).

He is a perfect fit for this team and he has come in this offseason and seemingly taken complete ownership in being the franchise QB in Tennessee, and his numbers and success from 2019 back that up.

Supported by an incredible supporting cast, Ryan Tannehill is one dominant wide receiver (opposite A.J. Brown) away from having a case as the QB with the best weapons in football. That added to his system fit and what he does pre-snap at the line of scrimmage, make me hesitant to say he will regress at all.

But, even if the numbers are right and he is due for a slight regression, this should be the most confident that Titans fans have been in an offense since Steve McNair was playing QB.
