Derek Barnett, DE

The Vol-Titan fans will love this one.

After a standout career at the University of Tennessee (Go Vols), Barnett was a 1st-round pick by Philadelphia in 2017, and while not developing into a star quite yet, has been a solid addition to an already deep defensive line.

Barnett had a good 2019 season, finishing with 30 tackles and 6.5 sacks. I don’t know about you, but I would love to add that level of production to the Titans’ d-line.

Barnett plays defensive end for Philly, but the Eagles run a 4-3 defensive scheme, and the Titans use a 3-4. This means Barnett would most likely line up as an OLB for the Titans, opposite Harold Landry. However, the Eagles already have Brandon Graham, Josh Sweat, and Genard Avery, so Barnett might be deemed expendable.

With the uncertainty surrounding new addition Vic Beasley, Barnett could be all the more useful in Nashville. He would also be cheaper financially than a potential Jadeveon Clowney signing.

It is important to note that Jon Robinson did eventually make contact with Beasley, but this is a concerning start to Beasley’s tenure as a Titan.

A mid-round pick and perhaps a depth player could be enough to get Barnett back to his hometown of Nashville.
