Biggest snub

It isn’t a flashy pick, but I can’t believe a punter other than Brett Kern was even considered for this position. Not only is Brett Kern the only player still on these teams that played the entire decade in this division, but he is one of the best punters in the NFL today.

Lechler got it because he has a bigger name than most other punters, but his play in Houston isn’t nearly enough to fight off a decade of outstanding play from Kern and it is really strange to me that this went through.

Even if you want to look at something as superficial as Pro Bowl appearances, during the short four-year period when Lechler was in the AFC South, he never once made the Pro Bowl. Meanwhile, Kern did make one in 2017 (when both were in the AFC South) and then made another one this season.

Kern is great and punters usually don’t get the respect they deserve once they retire, but I really hope fans realize how lucky they have been to watch Kern for the last decade.

Looking back at this year and you could argue that the Cameron Wake safety on Baker Mayfield in Week 1 and the Logan Ryan pick-six of Tom Brady in the playoffs were two of the biggest moments of the season and those were made possible because of great punts by Kern.
