How will a Tennessee Titans vs Baltimore Ravens rematch look?
The Tennessee Titans shocked the NFL last season, beating the Baltimore Ravens in the divisional round of the playoffs.
Going into this game, it appeared that the Ravens could not be beaten, and every analyst with a platform made sure to remind Titans fans of that.
The Lamar Jackson led Ravens went 14-2 in the regular season and had just come off of a bye week. But, when the chips were down and the talk was done, Tennessee dominated from start to finish, beating the Ravens 28-12.
Despite playing against one of the best defenses in the 2019 NFL playoffs, Derrick Henry in particular dominated, rushing for 195 yards despite the Ravens knowing exactly what the Titans gameplan was.
So what is different for both teams now?
Well, the Titans have a different look on defense since this matchup. Last year, their defense was able to hold Lamar Jackson to 52.5% completion rate. They intercepted Jackson twice and sacked him 4 times. Two of these sacks were contributed by Jurrell Casey, who is no longer with the Titans.
Another key contributor from that game that has closed the door on coming back to Tennessee is CB Logan Ryan who had 13 tackles, one of which for a loss, versus the Baltimore Ravens.
Without these key contributors, how will the Titans handle the Baltimore Ravens next season?
The Titans tried to answer this question throughout free agency adding Vic Beasley and pursuing Jadeveon Clowney very hard. There is still a question of whether or not Tennessee will add another defensive lineman, but they did make some additions to the secondary. While they might have lost Logan Ryan, Tennessee drafted Kristian Fulton and signed former Texan Jonathan Joseph.

The Ravens have had a very successful offseason, and it appears that they took Derrick Henry’s success versus them personally. They made a point early in the offseason to build up their front 7. Trading for Calais Campbell is the most notable move of the offseason for the Ravens so far. PFF named Calais Campbell run defender of the year with a 90.8 run-defense grade.
The Ravens also drafted Patrick Queen, who Lamar Jackson called “the next Ray Lewis” (though the last time Ray Lewis played a full season Jackson was only 13 years old, so take that for what it is worth) and DT Justin Madubuike out of Texas A&M.
The Ravens didn’t only focus on defense, though. They also drafted RB J.K. Dobbins and WR Devin Duvernay to provide Lamar Jackson with some offensive weapons.
Skip Bayless chose the Ravens to win the 2021 Super Bowl after such a successful offseason.
The Tennessee Titans will have their hands full with the Baltimore Ravens next season. As Skip Bayless said in regards to the Ravens offense, “the rich got richer.”
The good news for the Titans is that a Skip Bayless quote is worth its weight in…ok, what is worth less than nothing?
Anyway, if they want another chance at success the Titans will have to slow the game down and contain Lamar Jackson exactly like they did in the previous matchup. They will have to force Lamar Jackson to sit in the pocket and make throws rather than running around and making plays.
Getting Derrick Henry involved early and often will be the key to success for Tennessee on offense., even if they must double team Calais Campbell to do so. We all saw how taking Derrick Henry out of the game plan goes for Tennessee during the second half of the AFC championship last year.
The Titans will have to stay true to what they are best at offensively even though the Ravens have made some huge additions to their run defense.
