Tennessee Titans sign former Houston Texans DB Johnathan Joseph
By Will Lomas
Former Texans DB signs with Tennessee Titans and reunites with former DB coach.
The Tennessee Titans are 10 days removed from having just two CBs on the roster with starting experience, but after signing Johnathan Joseph that seems like a long time ago.
Starting with the signing of Tye Smith, the Tennessee Titans have added four cornerbacks:
-Tye Smith
-Kristian Fulton (2nd round draft pick)
–Chris Jackson (7th round draft pick)
-Johnathan Joseph (according to recent ESPN reports below)
Quickly turning a position without much depth into a position that looks ready for a real competition in the preseason.
While I would still expect the starting trio to be Adoree Jackson, Malcolm Butler and Kristian Fulton, it helps to have a savvy veteran like Joseph in the building. Sure, Joseph is 36 years old, but the Titans aren’t relying on him to be a full-time starter.

Instead, think about Joseph as a safety net locked in place in case another unfortunate incident happens that forces a Tennessee CB to miss significant time. Think about him as an upgraded version of what LeShaun Sims gave Tennessee last year.
New DB coach Anthony Midget has worked with Johnathan Joseph since 2014, and Mike Vrabel was also a part of that defensive staff from 2014-2017 so there is a LOT of familiarity there.
With a shortened offseason/preseason expected for the NFL it helps to grab up veterans at a cheap cost now. Going that route instead of choosing a rookie or young guy for depth purposes is that the veterans will have a really good idea on what exactly they need to be doing to get their mind and body right in these strange times.
While I don’t have exceedingly high hopes for Joseph if he finds himself in a starting role, it would be crazy for anyone to suggest that he wouldn’t be a clear upgrade to the situation that Tennessee and Tramaine Brock were forced into late in the season last year.
This gives Tennessee months to help educate a player on their defensive system with coaches who can easily explain the verbiage and make the transition as smooth as possible.
