Could the Tennessee Titans take a hard look at the Jacksonville Jaguars potential cuts?

NFL.com released their list of potential AFC cuts and despite the Jacksonville Jaguars being routinely decimated by the Tennessee Titans, there could be some intriguing names that they release.

The old expression is that one man’s trash is another man’s treasure, and that is true for NFL teams from time to time.

While taking big names and signing players whose past days are behind them isn’t always a good practice, there are cases where it can be good for everyone involved. Look no further than players like Ryan Tannehill to see where a change of scenery can bring new life to player.

The article on cuts says this about potential Jaguars cuts after they name Marcell Dareus, Marquise Lee and A.J. Bouye:

"That AFC Championship Game core continues to fade away in Jacksonville. GM Dave Caldwell can save $20 million against the cap by cutting Dareus, a fine rotation player still living off a near-$100 million contract given to him back in Buffalo by former Bills GM Doug Whaley. Lee has three catches for 18 yards since signing a four-year, $34 million contract. Bouye is the toughest call here, but he had a down 2019 season, and Jaguars.com’s John Oesher, one of the strongest team site writers out there, wrote he expected Bouye to be released."

I’ll talk about all three since we are already here.

Marquise Lee, WR

In terms of intrigue, I think that the least likely is Marquise Lee. While he had some productive seasons a few years ago, he did that by getting over 200 targets between 2016 and 2017.

On top of that, he only has 3 receptions in since the end of 2017.

More from Titan Sized

Marcell Dareus, DT

Austin Johnson won’t be back next season and I think that we need to have some conversations about what Jurrell Casey‘s role in this defense should be going forward with Daquan Jones and Jeffery Simmons playing really well.

If Dareus is looking for a one year, prove it deal to help rehab his reputation then Tennessee would be a nice place to do that.

On run downs, Dareus would give the Titans another tackle who can win with power on the inside and let Casey focus on being a pass rusher.

Also, with how much rotation there is in the Tennessee Titans defense you would expect him to be a good pairing with Jones if the Titans wanted to use those two as their “heavy” DT package behind Casey and Simmons who would also get work on 3rd downs.

A.J. Bouye, CB

This one is far and away the most interesting name on this list and the most likely for the Titans to sign.

Aside from this being the easiest connection to make based off of need, Mike Vrabel and Bouye were both with the Texans for three years together from 2014-2016.

What is really interesting is that the Bouye is a taller cornerback measuring in taller than 6-feet tall. Both starting cornerbacks for the Titans are smaller than that with Adoree Jackson and Malcolm Butler being somewhere around 5’10.

So now you have:

-A player at a position of need.

-Who has experience with this coaching staff.

-Who won’t count against the comp. pick formula.

-And who gives the Titans something different (size) which they need.

Those are a lot of checked boxes and with Bouye turning 29 this season, he may be interested in a really solid two year deal with a coach who is going to run the system he thrived in.
