San Francisco 49ers free agency

Added/kept: Dee Ford, Kwon Alexander, Tevin Coleman, Jason Verrett, David Mayo, Jordan Matthews, Jimmy Ward, Raheem Mostert, Emmanuel Sanders.

The biggest names on this list are obviously Dee Ford, Kwon Alexander, Tevin Coleman, Jimmy Ward and Raheem Mostert.

Defensively, Dee Ford has been a good pass rusher for them this season and has done well in his niche role as a guy who plays around 20 snaps per game for them. Alexander got a lot of money and was injured for most of this year, so it is really hard to grade that one way or another.

Jimmy Ward has had a really nice season and is probably the best add/keep player on this list on either side of the ball.

Offensively, I think that Coleman and Mostert are good players and while they are in a system that helps them thrive you can’t take away from the fact that they are also doing more than just getting the yards blocked for them.

In the deals for Emmanuel Sanders and Dee Ford, the 49ers traded their 2nd, 3rd and 4th round picks for the 2020 NFL Draft class so while these moves look great now it is easy to get distracted by that until you are staring at a thin team without rookies to support it later.
