Jon Robinson: Executive of the Year (pt. 2)

Talking about all of that made me want to go back and look at the recent history of Jon Robinson as a draft evaluator. We know that in his first draft he landed All-Pros in Jack Conklin and Kevin Byard in his first draft as well as a should be All-Pro in Derrick Henry.

After that, he got Corey Davis (who was on pace for 1,000 yards last year before the offense shut down) and Adoree Jackson (who people complained about even though he was having a very good year). In that draft he also landed Jayon Brown and Jonnu Smith which is a pretty solid class.

But, why hasn’t more been made about the job he has done in the past two years:

1st round pick, Rashaan Evans: Starting ILB who is a tone setter for the team and who finishes plays consistently.

1st, Jeffery Simmons: Eater of worlds who either resets the line of scrimmage for others or wreaks havoc himself.

2nd, Harold Landry: With a team high 9 sacks, you would think that Landry is only a pass rusher but his ability to track down run plays and screens is exceptional as well.

2nd, A.J. Brown: OROY (should be at least)

3rd, Nate Davis: Starting right guard who was thrust into action too early but is slowly getting better, particularly in the run game.

4th, Amani Hooker: On pace for 750+ snaps as a role player and special teamer.

5th, Dane Cruikshank: Blocked a field goal for a game-winning TD vs Indianapolis and has been a very good special teamer.

5th, D’Andre Walker: EDGE on IR who should be very good depth next year (13 sacks and 24.5 TFLs in two years as a starter with Georgia).

6th, David Long: The linebacker who forced the fumble vs the Kansas City Chiefs that Rashaan Evans took to the house. A very instinctive linebacker who is quick to the ball, although he probably needs to add about 10 pounds.

6th, Luke Falk: Even though he did actually play this year let’s go ahead and just replace this name with Sharif Finch or Isaiah Mack.

To have 10 of 11 players from your last two draft classes not only on the team, but making a big impact is huge.

This is an award he should win for what he has done this year and he really deserves it based on the body of work that he has shown thus far.
