The Tennessee Titans have parted ways with the six-year veteran after he played in just four games.
Defensive end Brent Urban‘s time with the Tennessee Titans has come to an abrupt end.
On Saturday, Tennessee cut ties with the six-year veteran after playing in just four games with the team.
The Titans signed Urban in April, and he was expected to be a key contributor on the defensive line. That never really materialized, as Urban only played 63 defensive snaps, and was inactive for two of the six games this season.
A fourth-round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, Urban spent his first five seasons in the league as a member of the Baltimore Ravens, though due to a series of injuries, he only managed to play two full seasons with the Ravens before joining the Titans.
He had 52 total tackles and 3.5 sacks in five years in Baltimore, but failed to make the stat line in any of the four games he played in with the Titans.
With first-round pick Jeffery Simmons’ return from his ACL tear now imminent, Urban was probably going to be deemed expendable sooner or later.
According to John Glennon, Tennessee’s injury issues at the outside linebacker position more than likely accelerated that, as the Titans then added Derick Roberson from the practice squad.
Sharif Finch has already been listed as “out” for the second straight game with a shoulder injury, and Cameron Wake (hamstring) and Reggie Gilbert (knee) are questionable after both of them were limited in practice this week, which meant the only healthy outside linebackers the Titans had were Harold Landry and Kamalei Correa.
With the depth on the edge thinning, Tennessee had to cut somebody loose in order to move up Roberson for the game, and unfortunately for Urban, it was he who was let go.
